My Search for Answers to Life’s Biggest Questions

You may be curious about what I think these questions are.  One of the most important is:  Will I continue to exist in some fashion after my brain and body cease their usual functions?  Another is:  Where did the structure of the universe come from, and is there any overall purpose that guides it all?   Now, assuming you believe like I do that we all possess a soul through which we will live on after we die, and that everything must have been created for a purpose, then you might also ask:  Does anything that we do now impact what we will experience after our death?  As we go forward here, I will be addressing these questions, and others like them.

Of course, we all already have answers to these kinds of fundamentally important questions that we share with almost everyone else we know.  And, for almost all of us, what we believe about them now was provided by our family, friends, and teachers when we were young.  By and large, they were all given in love, and were the best that the people who cared for us knew how to give, and we cherish these beliefs.  So, allowing and considering doubts about these teachings may feel like we are dishonoring or even betraying those that shared them with us.  Even worse, seriously entertaining any alternatives to these accepted answers may feel evil, or sinful.  I do not want to offend anyone.  If these concerns apply to you, or if you are completely satisfied with what you currently believe about these kinds of questions, reading what follows may not be the best use of your time.

However, if you are like me, you have never been completely comfortable with some of the most important teachings you received in your younger years.  As far back as I can remember, the inconsistencies and conflicts between certain fundamental doctrines I was taught left me with serious doubts.  For example, while I have always been in complete agreement with the idea that the universe and everything in it was created by a loving, benevolent Creator, I could never reconcile this idea with what I was taught about the possibility of being punished for eternity for violating some of the Creator’s rules.  And, since I was taught that this was a mystery that had to be taken on faith, I concluded that absolute certainty about this contradiction, and others like it, would have to wait until I passed on from this life.  In the meantime, for me to follow the general guidelines from biblical teachings made good sense to me and would also cover my bases (just in case). While I always kept looking for better answers, this was a workable strategy for how to live my life.

Then, on a bright and sunny, spring morning while driving to work on my way to my medical office in Leesburg, Georgia, I happened to come across information on my car radio that completely changed some of my most important beliefs.  Tentative assumptions I had always relied on were suddenly replaced by new insights that I knew, beyond any doubt, were completely valid. The information I found acted like a key opening a door to answers I could be sure about right now, without having to die first to gain this certainty.  Of course, this new awareness also made it clear that certain beliefs that almost all of us share are mistaken.

Happening upon these insights was completely unexpected, and it was a huge relief from nagging doubts that had been a subtle but pervasive part of my life!  In the back of my mind was always the question: What if what I was taught, and what I assumed to be true, was wrong?  Now I had answers I could completely rely on, and they started me on a path toward much greater appreciation for how well everything has been designed, and much more confidence in what the future holds for all of us.

Finding these unexpected answers was also very exciting!  What I discovered strongly suggested ways to not only further confirm the original insights but also how to achieve a deeper understanding of their implications.   For the decades that followed, I diligently searched the scientific literature for these confirmations and deeper understanding, finding what I expected and much, much more.  Eventually it also led me to potent self-healing strategies for myself and for others.

Both the exact details of the circumstances, and the timing of the events I will be describing, taken together, demonstrated to me that the new insights were valid and true.   But for you, as you read this, they will only be my report of highly unlikely events.  For you to become as confident as I am in what I am saying, then, you will probably need experiences of your own to confirm their truth.  I will try to resolve this dilemma in several ways.  First, I will tell the story of how I acquired these insights in much more detail, including the immediately obvious implications that caused me to react so strongly to what I discovered.  Next, I will describe my efforts to gain a deeper understanding of it all during the decades that followed, and for those readers who might want to confirm my conclusions for themselves, I will summarize the high points of what this exploration uncovered. This exploration also led me to several powerful self-healing strategies.  Since I have found them to be very useful for most of my patients when I shared them, I will describe these for you, also.  They will provide another way for you to confirm what I am saying.  Then, to wrap this up, I will finish this presentation with a compendium that organizes it all the best way I can, as I currently understand it.

A Tale of Two Stories that Transformed my View of the World

I heard the first story when I was in the Air Force in 1969.  It was hearing this story that set the stage for me to be so receptive to what was to be a life-altering coincidence that wouldn’t come about until over two decades later.   I was doing on-the-job training in civil engineering at Wright Patterson AFB near Dayton, Ohio.  I had become good friends with a soon-to-be-retired woman who managed the drawings and blueprint files at the civil engineering office where we worked.  Mary was a delightful, gray-haired woman who walked with a cane and a pronounced limp.  Two of the many things I liked so much about her were the way she always spoke whatever was on her mind, and you also knew that whatever she said was completely true.  I remember the exact details of the story she told me back then like I had just heard it last week.

One afternoon, Mary and I were in the office alone, taking a coffee break.  She had just finished telling me about how bad her degenerative arthritis was and how she got her limp.  Then she said she was going to share something with me that she had resolved to never tell anyone.  Of course, I was intrigued.  She began to speak quietly, almost a whisper, as if someone in the otherwise empty office might hear her.  She began by telling me about her right hip surgery several years earlier.  It was about what happened during her surgery that she felt so strongly that I should hear about.  Somehow, she said, she awoke in the middle of her surgery and felt herself rising off the operating room table toward the ceiling.  She remembered being startled and confused, but it was mostly the chaos below that had her attention.  Her surgeon was yelling obscenities, and a nurse was pounding on the chest of her obviously lifeless, pale-looking body.  It also seemed quite odd to her to be without even a trace of the usual pains that had been a constant part of her life.

Then she felt something pull her up through the ceiling into a dark but pleasant tunnel of some sort.  Off in the distance she could see what started out as a spec of light that kept getting brighter and larger as she floated closer.  She arrived at the end facing the most handsome and warm man she had ever seen.  She knew he must be Jesus because of the overwhelming sense of peace and love pouring out from him.  He told her that he wanted her to go back to her body since there was more that she needed to do.  But it was her choice.  She didn’t want to go back to her pain-wracked body, but she said she would if that was what he wanted.

Next, she found herself waking up from the anesthesia, feeling a sharp pain in her hip and the familiar pains of her other joints.  She felt very sad as she recalled the pleasant feelings and the loving glow she left behind by agreeing to return.  When she saw the nurse who had been pounding on her chest in the operating room, she asked why she had been pounding on her like that.   Mary said this nurse looked shocked and confused and said: “How did you know this, you were under anesthesia and your heart was not even beating?”  Mary started telling her what she remembered, but the nurse continued to look embarrassed and even got angry.  Then the nurse abruptly changed the subject by asking her if she needed her pain medication restarted.  This was when Mary decided to never again mention all this to anyone else.

I was astounded and perplexed by Mary’s story!  I had never heard anything like it before and it went against everything I was sure I knew about how our mind and body work.  Nor did it fit at all into my concepts of how the world worked.  Yet I was absolutely sure Mary was not making any of this up; I knew that she would never lie about anything, and she had no reason to make up such an unlikely and bizarre story.  I also knew from the way she told me about all this that she had never heard anything like it anywhere else. This was long before any reports of what are now known as “near death experiences” had been in the news, in books, or in magazines.   I just didn’t know what to make of Mary’s honesty on the one hand, and her outlandish tale on the other.  Like Mary, I just pushed this story into the back of my mind and went about my life.  Over the next two decades, I didn’t hear about anything that was even remotely like what Mary told me that day in the engineering office.  That is, not until I heard this second story that I am about to recount to you, and, like the first story, I also remember the details of this second one as if it just happened recently.

During the time between the two stories, I had gone to medical school, and it was while I was working as a physician at a medical clinic in Leesburg, Georgia, that I heard the second story.  I had been in the habit of listening to music on my car radio as I drove from Albany to my office in Leesburg.  On this particular day,as I was searching on my radio for a music channel, I happened to hear the beginning of an interview with Betty Jean Eadie concerning her recently published book: Embraced by the Light.  What I was hearing hit me like a lightning bolt out of a clear blue sky!  I pulled off the highway to give my full attention to what I was hearing.

Betty Jean was telling how she remembered floating up out of her lifeless body when she had a massive hemorrhage in the recovery room following surgery.  She told how she felt warm and comfortable floating through a long dark tunnel and how she was eventually given the choice of returning to her body and going on with her life back here on earth.  The incredible similarity to Mary’s story from two decades earlier was a total shock to me!  It was such a shock because there were two things about these two stories that were instantly apparent to me.  First, there was no possible way Betty Jean could have known about or heard of Mary’s story.   And second, the stories were so unlikely and so close to being word for word identical to each other that there was no way this could have been just a coincidence.

That evening, on the way back home from work, I purchased a copy of Embraced by the Light at a local bookstoreI read the entire book in one sitting that evening and on into the wee hours of the morning.  Then, for several days, these stories and their implications were constantly on my mind.  I recalled quantum mechanics research findings, from my physics training, that physicists were at a complete loss to explain.  Here were insights that provided the missing explanations.   I mulled over reports of well-designed research studies that seemed to validate extra-sensory perception, yet which could not be explained by any physical mechanisms.  Here, also, were plausible explanations of how human beings might accomplish such feats.  I even went over in my mind what I had learned about the various religious systems of doctrine that have been widely accepted around the world, and how I had been so puzzled by their contradictory teachings.  Looking at them through the new perspective these insights provided, I began to see how contradictions would likely arise.  I was fascinated at finding explanations for conflicting ideas and reports that I had been searching for ever since I was old enough to ask such questions.

Initial Implications of the Stories

Hearing the second story that was so nearly identical to the first, and knowing there was no physical means that could possibly have produced this incredible similarity, completely changed my understanding of who I am.   I now know that who I am, as well as who we all are, are spiritual beings whose conscious existence continues on after it separates form our physical bodies.  From what these ladies reported, while in spiritual form, they still were able to perceive sound and light, had feelings, could think and imagine, and could remember much of what they experienced to tell us about later.  This means that what science tells us about how all these abilities are produced by the neurons of the brain, and completely dependent on the activity of these neurons, is mistaken.  We are spiritual beings, and our existence is completely independent of anything that happens in the physical universe.

These two ladies are telling us that when we are separated from our bodies, and in purely spiritual form, our awareness of what is happening in our world, and our ability to move around within it, is greatly enhanced.  This also tells us that while our spiritual forms inhabit our bodies, our abilities are somehow powerfully constrained and limited.  It is important that, in both stories, these ladies were given the option to return to their bodies before they both chose to return.  This also tells us that inhabiting our physical bodies, and the constraints this imposes is purposeful.  The ability of these ladies to remember and tell us about their experiences while out of their bodies also tells us, in no uncertain terms, that the physical and spiritual realms of existence are not truly separate, they are always interacting and influencing each other.  As I said earlier, I had always believed that my present life, and my future existence as a soul, were completely separate, and that I expected to transition from one to the other at my death.  Now I see that it is only my ingrained beliefs that kept me from understanding that this life is just a tool I am in the process of using.

While Mary didn’t say anything to me about why we don’t normally have access to such spiritual awareness and powers, Betty Jean Eadie, in her book, tells us that she was told that this awareness and these powers are purposely blocked at our birth.  She describes our birth as “a sleep and a forgetting” of our true spiritual nature. She also explained how everything that exists and everything that happens is purposeful and serves us in ways we do not usually understand.   She tells us that it was explained to her that everything that exists was “spiritual matter” before it became a physical manifestation.  Spiritual reality, then, is the source of everything physical, it connects everything and provides its purpose.  It was also explained that what is true of spirit is also true of us.  Though we usually do not see it this way, our imagination, thoughts, and expectations create both our weakness and our strength.  The universe was created to serve spirit, and we are in our bodies to “develop higher levels of knowing,” and acquire “attributes we lack.”

These realizations were a huge relief to me then and continue to be reassuring now.  I now know beyond any doubt that my life will continue after I pass on from this body, and I will retain the memory of everything I have learned.  I also know that after this happens, I can anticipate both a more pleasant state of being and the increased conscious abilities that are part of a purely spiritual state of being.  And, since this is who we all are as spiritual beings, everyone I have loved and lost is still alive and well and waiting for me when I will eventually rejoin them.

Of course, this may all sound like so much wishful thinking.  Too good to be true.   But besides being the source of so many reassuring concepts and ideas, the way I found out about these two stories, as well as their highly unlikely contents, suggested a way to further confirm their messages.  While I was taught, and always accepted as true, that spiritual questions were unscientific and not valid topics to explore with the scientific method, the incredibly unlikely similarity between these two stories showed this conclusion to be wrong.  Since actions within the spiritual realm often violate the usual physical limitations that mainstream science has clearly established, we can use the violation of these physical rules to conclusively prove the existence of spiritual actions and influences.  Physical interactions always adhere to limitations of time and distance, while spiritual interactions do not.  We can use sophisticated modern statistical analysis to tell us when the usual scientific laws of physical interactions are violated in ways that cannot be ascribed to chance or random interactions.

For decades now, I have been reviewing scientific research reports, focusing on those considered to be anomalies in that their outcomes were unexpected or unexplainable.  When it was practical and feasible, I have undertaken some of my own experimental trials to test what others reported.  I have also carefully reviewed pertinent reports and information concerning metaphysical and spiritual concepts.  What I have found through all this searching is incredible.  First, there is a truly massive amount of scientific data that supports the concepts implied or stated by the stories of these two ladies.  This research is usually of very high quality and very well replicated, but unfortunately, it is also very rarely cited by other scientists and even more rarely utilized.  Of course, there have also been other books and many other reports about what are now called near death experiences (NDE), most of which are very similar to the stories I just discussed.  In addition, my personal testing of these concepts, when this has been possible for me, confirmed what others have reported.  Finally, the highest quality modern sources of metaphysical and spiritual writings, often called “channeling,” have not only been exceptionally coherent and consistent with each other, they have also been in line with the messages of the NDE stories and the scientific research into human paranormal abilities.  All this has served to further convince me of the truth of what I have discovered, while also improving my understanding of the initial insights, and it can also be used by interested readers to examine this evidence for themselves.

So, if this is all valid and reliable, we are much more powerful than we have ever imagined was possible.  We are also much more important than we ever dared to believe, and our future is much brighter than even the most optimistic of us ever hoped.  Next, I will summarize what I found in my search in a manner that will suggest ways for you to verify what I am reporting.

Verifying the Implications

The underlying messages of the two NDE stories and the confirmation of their correctness made it clear to me that my understanding of how the world works, before coming across these two stories in the way I did, had been mistaken.  I see now that my early training firmly held my mind in a kind of cage that kept me from seeing the truth more clearly.  Part of the power that this cage had over my mind was from knowing that those who taught and raised me had done their best to give me what they believed to be true.  Another part of its power came from knowing that everyone else around me also firmly held the same beliefs.

Before I begin to address the research literature, though, if we set aside some of the assumptions that have tended to keep our minds locked in their modern cage, we can use logic and a very basic understanding of the composition of the human body to support the messages concerning the spiritual nature of human consciousness,  We have long known that we are all composed of trillions of separate cells each capable of continuing their viability even when separated from the support of our body.  Have you ever asked yourself how your self-awareness as a single individual could emerge from trillions of separate cells?  There is no known means for our singular consciousness to arise out of a large collection of individual cells, but if we understand that they are two separate things attached to each other, this paradox is resolved.  It is now clear to me that who we all are is something separate from our body and it uses our body as a tool to focus our experience within the physical universe.  In further support of this conclusion, we also know that the physical materials of the body are constantly being replaced.  The molecules and cells of the body are constantly being lost and new components take their place.  This process of change is so pervasive in our body that we have a nearly completely new body every seven years or so.  Again, who we are cannot be equated to our physical body since our conscious self is always the same while the physical materials that make up our body are always changing.  From this modern understanding of our body’s cellular composition, and how it is constantly changing, it is quite clear that who we are is not our body.  In confirmation of the main message of these stories, at the core of who we are, we are spiritual beings.

More support for the messages of the NDE stories can be derived from the research physicists have undertaken to investigate the surprising behavior of subatomic particles.  We call our modern understanding of how the subatomic universe works quantum mechanics.  On the one hand, the phenomenon of entanglement (where two separated particles change in unison without any physical means to explain their coordinated action) shows that metaphysical interactions are always at play in the action of all physical particles.  On the other hand, research into the behavior of physical particles also shows that the information the research physicists hold in their minds concerning the status of the particles they are studying changes the behavior of these particles within the experiments.  What we think and what we know is therefore shown to change the physical world around us through the non-physical action of our mind only.  Physicists have been perplexed by their inability to explain these interactions which seem to defy well recognized physical laws, but as you become more aware of the power of consciousness, you begin to better understand its metaphysical effects on the material world.

Moving on from the physics of subatomic particles to our experiences of the world around us, the unexpected and amazing powers of the human mind, vividly described in the two NDE stories, have also been extensively demonstrated in research programs specifically designed to investigate reports of how the minds of human beings seem to change the actions of inanimate devices with no physical means of doing so.  Some of the most impressive demonstrations of this innate power of the human mind come from the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research program.   This was a twenty-year program supported by Princeton University which conclusively demonstrated the existence of these kinds of controversial interactions.  Another kind of surprising power of the human mind is demonstrated in what has been called “remote viewing” experiments.  In these research designs, subjects are completely isolated from any information from the world around them and directed to report on their spontaneous mental impressions about activities and physical structures, often located at vast distances away.  This effort was so successful that the US Defense Intelligence Agency spent over twenty million dollars over more than twenty years investigating this human ability.  These are just a couple of the best examples of programs investigating the powers of the human mind.  There have been many others!  They confirm the reality of what the ladies reported about the latent powers of the human mind from their “near death” experiences.

Further confirmation resulted from my own informal research strategies to personally verify what I had read about in these kinds of research reports.  In one of these I had written a computer program to generate a large, continuous stream of random numbers, store their output, and analyze the statistical likelihood that the results produced were due to chance.  The results of this program were as expected unless I mentally focused on the computer while it was generating its stream of numbers and tried to intend or will it to change its output to larger numbers.  The results of the outputs under this kind of mental intention trial were so unlikely to be a random result that I would have had to run it and record its results over 10,000 times to get similar results by chance alone.  Every time I ran this program without focusing mental intent on it, it produced results close to the usual chance expectations.  When I ran it again with focused mental intent for it to be changed, I continued to get similar, wildly unlikely results.  My conclusion from these trials is that we all have these usually hidden abilities, but it takes properly designed research with sophisticated statistical analysis to see these results so clearly.

Another experience that helped further confirm the existence of our non-physical, mental powers was an informal trial of sending mental suggestions to strangers that were completely unaware of what I was doing.  I tried this during a lunch break at a medical conference I was attending.  I was eating a box lunch with about 200 other attendees in an auditorium being used for this meal.  I was sitting at one of several tables situated up on a stage in the auditorium, giving me a clear view of most of the others eating their lunch.  I chose a gentleman sitting by himself with his back to me, and I sent a mental message to him, asking him to look my way.  I almost fell off my chair from the shock of seeing him stand up, look around the room, shrug his shoulders and then sit back down to his meal.  I tried this one more time with less dramatic, but very similar results.  I stopped after this second trial since I knew that my mental actions were producing this effect, and this was clearly intruding in the personal lives of these two people I had chosen at random.  I have done other informal, less intrusive trials, and they have all provided more support for my appreciation of the metaphysical effects of thought and mental intent.  While I am pretty sure that few people believe this kind of mental influence exists, there is no longer any doubt in my mind, whatsoever.

More evidence that supports what the NDE stories tell us about the power of the human mind comes from reports and research trials involving mental intent to heal other people or animals.  For instance, there are several well-designed research studies that show that the prayers of groups of religious believers for the healing of hospitalized, acutely ill patients improve their outcomes compared to those who were not included in the prayers.  In other research trials, animals injected with deadly cancers were shown to dramatically respond to the healing intent of people who just spent time with them and did not do anything to alter their treatment.  There have been many other research studies demonstrating the power of human intent to heal without any direct contact.

Yet another reassuring confirmation of the implications of the NDE reports are the ideas and information that come from a human activity often called “channeling.”  I first was introduced to the potential value of this phenomenon when I read a book called Bridging Science and Spirit by Norman Friedman.  In this book, Norman Friedman described his efforts to make sense of the research findings of physicists studying the predictions of the theory of quantum mechanics.  In his book, he wrote that he had found very helpful ideas in books written by Robert Butts who had transcribed what his wife, Jane Roberts, had spoken while in a trance state.  The source of these ideas and concepts were supposedly from a “spiritual entity” who called himself Seth.  These channeled perspectives were so useful that I obtained some of Jane Roberts’ books, and I found a lot of intriguing and very helpful insights that suggested potential resolutions to the dilemmas found within quantum mechanics.  Since being introduced to channeling in this way, I have gone on to extensively read some of the best of what other “channelers” have written.   They are remarkably consistent with each other, and they describe how our world was created by an intelligent, benevolent spiritual source.  While the words and terminology of the writings were all different, the underlying ideas and concepts were the same.  These concepts were also consistent with the NDE reports as well as the many previously unexplained scientific research results.

Over the years, I have also continued to explore the written records of the world’s great religious traditions.   With the perspective and vantage point I had acquired from the NDE reports, along with my subsequent inquiries, I saw the seemingly confusing and contradictory sets of religious doctrines in a new light.  I could see how the great masters who started these religious teachings, revered by so many, were doing something very much like modern “channelers.”  They had access to spiritual ideas that their followers responded to and found great value in their teachings.  It appears to me now that all of these widely shared sets of doctrines hold important spiritual truth, but none had truth that was so complete that the others were not needed.  I could also see how the original teachings of the great masters tended to be slowly weakened and distorted as they were passed down through the ages, yet how they still retained powerful spiritual insights that keeps the traditions alive and valuable to their many followers today.  I could also see how many of these doctrines and insights were remarkably coherent with the ideas arising from the NDE reports, the seemingly anomalous scientific research reports, and modern day “channelers.”  These are deep, consistent truths that are continuing to emerge and increase in their value and potential power to aid mankind’s spiritual evolution.

With all this preparation and clarification behind us, and for those who have continued to read what may have been a very challenging discourse, I will stick my neck out further by providing a compendium of the truths I derived from these diverse sources.  I will set these ideas in the format of first stating important questions, next providing a very brief discussion of the answers I have been finding, and finishing each section with a short summary answer.

A compendium of Possible Answers:

Why is the universe the way it is?

As we look out at the stellar expanses in the universe around us, the same patterns are repeated everywhere, the same particles and components aggregate and interact in precisely the same fashion.

And, as we look back over billions of years here on earth using geological and fossil records, we see life-forms becoming ever more complex, with more power and freedom of action, all supportive of the direction toward which it is all evolving.

Everything is thoroughly and completely organized and structured, from the largest of galaxies to the most infinitesimal of subatomic particles.

It is all imbued with purpose and design to produce and support life in ever more advanced form.

And it is awesome and beautiful to behold.

THE UNIVERSE IS NOT RANDOM, IT HAS BEEN DESIGNED AND IS GUIDED IN ITS EVOLUTION AND EXPANSION

*******************************

Where does the purposefulness come from that manifests as the organized structures and lawful interactions that we see everywhere in the universe?

Taking in the big picture of how everything works gives us some understanding of the nature of the Source of it all.

Since we find that everything physical is powerfully constrained in its interactions by time and distance, we become aware that nothing physical could possibly control it all and maintain the lawfulness we see everywhere.

Something beneath, beyond and outside of the physical must be aware of it all, connected to it all, and guiding it all, in ways that are not limited by time or location.

This something has the power to produce and guide everything that exists, and since it is not limited by time nor location, it is constant and eternal.

And since this Source is also invisible and silent to our human physical senses, we call it spiritual.

THE PHYSICAL UNIVERSE ORIGINATES FROM, AND IS GUIDED BY A SINGLE, AWARE, INTELLIGENT, POWERFUL, SPIRITUAL SOURCE

********************************

What is our Creator’s purpose in creating it all?

Observing the sweeping movement of the big picture points toward the purpose of it all. Out in the cosmos, new galaxies, new solar systems, and new planets are always forming. Here on earth, more advanced and more complex forms of life have been developing, with ever greater freedom of action and power.

Feeling our emotional responses to it all further rounds out our understanding of the purpose to which it is all intended:

The joy in a mother’s heart as she gazes into the eyes of her newborn child.

The awesome beauty of the setting sun, of a distant mountain range, and of a star-filled sky.

Our fascination at watching kittens at play.

Beneficence, and the expansion of beauty, love, and joy guide every aspect of the development of everything that exists. The outcome of all change is in service to its loving, spiritual origin.

EVERYTHING IS THE EXPANSION OF LOVE, FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL

**************************************

Who or what are we?

We know that the physical particles making up our bodies are changing every day, yet no matter which particles make up our bodies, we are always the same individual. This means we are not our bodies.

We also know that our bodies are made up of trillions of cells, each capable of independent existence, yet we experience ourselves as only one person, not a community of trillions. This too tells us we are not our bodies.

Since we cannot just be a mass of physical particles, our essence is non-physical. We are spiritual beings.

In keeping with our spiritual nature, it has been repeatedly shown that if we choose to set aside all physical sensory input, we have potential access to any information or images that exist anywhere in the world, and at any time.

And, although usually very subtle, it has also been repeatedly shown that our conscious intent to non-physically influence physical actions always do so, completely independent of location and time.

In the same way that the spiritual Source of all that exists is outside of, beneath, and beyond the universe, our essence is also spiritual, we are invisibly connected to everything else, and our conscious existence will not end when our physical body is no longer viable.

Every soul in the universe is part of the creative Source. Each of us on earth is a piece of the Creator, walking in human form.

WE ARE SPIRITUAL BEINGS WITH AMAZING POTENTIAL POWER, WHO’S EXISTENCE IS ETERNAL

************************************

If we truly are spiritual beings, with access to spiritual power, then why do we not always experience ourselves as such?

When spirit elects to attach part of its awareness to a physical life form, that part of its consciousness gives up much of its spiritual orientation. The spiritual aspect of who we are is usually completely blocked from our awareness by our physical senses, and by the compelling experiences of the physical world.

But in this life, as spiritual beings firmly attached to physical bodies, we always have access to both dimensional realities at all times, and we exist in both simultaneously.

Our physical attachment usually leaves us with a kind of spiritual amnesia about all experiences prior to or beyond this physical life we are now living. And our spiritual senses, which transcend space and time, are also hidden from our casual awareness. In the same fashion, we usually fail to recognize the spiritually mediated impacts of our actions and intentions on the world around us.

Since these blocks disorient us to our fundamental spiritual nature, it is natural for us to completely identify with our bodies.

INCARNATING INTO THE PHYSICAL WORLD USUALLY DISORIENTS US AS TO OUR SPIRITUAL ESSENCE, AND WE IDENTIFY WITH OUR BODIES

*******************************

Why do we see so much pain and suffering in the world?

Almost all the pain and suffering on earth is the direct result of misguided human behavior.

Since, due to spiritual amnesia, the wisdom we derive from experiences prior to this life is usually unavailable to us, this loss of awareness makes us vulnerable to distorted and damaging ideas that we often readily accept as truth.

Mistaken ideas bind us to the fear they produce, and this fear is a powerful impetus toward actions that result in pain and suffering both for ourselves and for others.

This pain and suffering produce imprints in our minds that accumulate over time, and our minds become fertile ground to generate impulses to defend, attack or destroy.

SPIRITUAL AMNESIA RESULTS IN FEAR, AND FEAR PROMOTES DAMAGING AND DESTRUCTIVE ACTIONS

*********************************

Can anyone ever become so lost that they become permanently evil?

We can accumulate so much emotional damage as we live our lives, that our actions can look to be completely evil. Though we can never be completely separate from our loving, spiritual Source, we can believe ourselves to be, and due to this belief, we can act in ways that look like we are.

When we agreed to incarnate, we knew that we could become lost in the suffering and disorientation of any given lifetime.

To purposefully create pain in others, we must first be in pain ourselves. When we act in evil and destructive ways, we are divinity wearing a mask that we do not even know we are wearing.

Based on the level of insight each of us possesses, and the unresolved emotional damage we might be carrying, we all operate at different levels of vibration. But no one is ever evil incarnate.

WE ALL COME TO EARTH WILLINGLY, KNOWINGLY FACING THE RISKS WE FACE FOR THE GOOD OF ALL. WE ARE ALL HEROIC!

************************************

Since we were spiritual beings prior to arriving here, and we knew the risks of participating, why did we agree to it?

Ultimately, our creation and the creation of the universe are two parts of the same plan; the universe was provided for us to enhance spiritual evolution.

Our spiritual amnesia, itself, is purposeful, and everything that results from it serves the intent of our creative Source.

Certain desirable experiences are only available through complete immersion within the dramatics of the physical world. It is one way we can choose to enhance our experience and our spiritual evolution.

Many of us come back, again and again, to new lives on the earth. We come to earth, lose our spiritual awareness, and work to rediscover it while still in the physical. In so doing, we further our own spiritual advancement while also helping mankind advance in its understanding of truth.

Since our eternal existence and our individual spiritual advancement are always assured, it is our role in the spiritual advancement of mankind on earth that inspires and motivates us to repeatedly come back.

WE ATTACH TO THE PHYSICAL IN ORDER TO EXPAND OUR EXPERIENCE AND TO ENHANCE THE SPIRITUAL GROWTH OF ALL

What is our purpose, in the overall scheme of things?

By learning to see beyond the physical, we ascend to a more expanded awareness.

We come to understand that the action of every particle in the universe is a manifestation of its Creator’s intent.

We learn to see every other human being as an eternal and self-aware manifestation that always remains a part of the loving essence of our Source.

We discover that what matters most is beauty and love, shared.

And we see that, at all times, conscious expansion is what counts.

TO SEE EVERYTHING THAT EXISTS AS A RESULT OF LOVING INTENT IS TO BE IN THE KINGDOM PREPARED FOR US

Since the references I am citing here will require a significant investment of your time to carefully examine, I encourage you to pick and choose amongst them to find those that seem most interesting and promising to you.  I will provide a brief orientation to their content, in bold print, just before the references.

What follows are the citations for Betty Jean Eadie’s and Anita Moorjani’s first books that they wrote about their near-death experiences (NDE).  It was hearing about and reading Betty Jean’s book that started me on exploration that has lasted several decades, and which has resulted in what you are reading here.  Anita’s book is an exceptional NDE report that contains insights that are not only completely in line with Betty Jean’s report, Anita’s story is also supported by her well documented and verified sudden “spontaneous” cure of lymphoma in what her doctors were certain were the last few hours of her life.

Moorjani A,  Dying To Be Me: My Journey From Cancer, To Near Death, To True Healing.  Hay House, Inc; 201

The NDE stories tell of our innate, yet hidden, ability to access information in a manner that violates our common sense expectations of how it can only be obtained by physical means.  This book documents research to explore the human ability to gather information with no physical access to it:

Targ R,  The Reality Of ESP: A Physicist’s Proof Of Psychic Abilities.  Quest Books; 2012

The NDE stories also tell of our ability to influence events at a distance, without any physical contact.  This book documents over two decades of work, by a team of scientists in the Princeton University Engineering Department, to show how the focused intent of research subjects can change distant physical events:

Jahn JG, Dunne DJ,  Margins Of Reality: The Role Of Consciousness In The Physical World. Harcourt Brace Jovanovich; 1987

Here are the citations for two books that document the power of the human mind, through healing intent alone, to influence the health and wellbeing of people and other living things:

Benor BJ,  Spiritual Healing: Scientific Validation Of A Healing Revolution.  Vision Publications; 2001

Bengston W,  The Energy Cure: Unraveling The Mystery Of Hands-On Healing.  Sounds True; 2010

Here are internet links to information bought to us by modern-day “channelers” of spiritual insights, and who have a large audience that follows their work.  I have read or listened to virtually all that is available by them.  There are many others, but I find these to be some of the best, and their contents are not only completely in line with each other, they are also completely in line with the NDE reports, and the anomalous scientific research reports, including quantum mechanics.
